New Wave Trip was founded 5 years ago by Rick Cowley when he
started teaching surfing lessons in Malibu, California. The work combined two things he loved to do:
teaching and surfing. Not only did he
get to play in the water all summer and become friends with his students, he
also got to travel the world for the rest of the year.
Well, those surf bum days of living in his
truck all summer and living out of a bag all winter have passed. A truck won’t house his new wife and baby, and
one bag won’t even fit all their wetsuits. Along with Rick’s new responsibilities came a desire
to expand New Wave Trip and incorporate another passion: travel.
In January of 2005 an inspirational idea entered his mind and has not left
since: to take people surfing in Mexico. Thus
The Southern Baja Surf Camp and The '40' Mexico Surf Tour were born.
